Paint
record
visual markings
on paper
making objects
gathering surfaces
shaping colors, patterns and lines
all of this a part
of what I enjoy doing.
Similar
to the joy of
gardening:
selecting
planting
arranging - rearranging
growing - changing
watching the juxtaposition of each species
sometimes visually glorious moments
of transitional beauty.
Or
walking
exciting my visual curiosity:
through vistas of
landscape or cityscape
sometimes to record/document
with camera images
combining
word - drawing - painting.
WHY DO I MAKE THESE THINGS?
For the pleasure of discovery
the curiosity of visual surfaces
or the expression of an internal
thought / transformed
to a visual object or painting or photo
or garden all these are part
of what brings me pleasure
and insight or wonder.
(making by imagination)
Sometimes
I look at what I make
and do not see a story.
Other times
I see a recording of
personal history in paint.
The meaning unfolds from
the process of painting / making.
or perhaps an understanding
discovered years later.
A PROCESS:
After choosing the
dimension of paper
I usually approach a piece
with an open perspective
rarely am I conscious of
a goal of a preconceived image.
Allowing the first mark
to begin a process of interactions,
leading me within a
painting / construction.
A building process
adding sometimes
or deleting
to a conclusion.
